Each week during the 2024 season the Maxwell Football Club will recognize outstanding performances with two weekly awards. The Maxwell Award Player of the Week will be recognized for overall performance on offense, defense or special teams, and the Chuck Bednarik Award Player of the Week will be honored for outstanding defensive play. Players selected do not have to be represented on the Maxwell or Bednarik Award watch list.

Maxwell Award Player of the Week - QB Jalen Milroe, Alabama
Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe delivered a standout performance in Tuscaloosa on Saturday, leading the Crimson Tide to a crucial victory over #2 Georgia. Milroe completed 27 of 33 passes for 374 yards and two touchdowns, showcasing his accuracy and poise under pressure. He also dominated on the ground, rushing 16 times for 117 yards and two additional touchdowns, making him a dual-threat force that Georgia struggled to contain. His efforts were instrumental in securing Alabama’s victory and catapulted him into the national spotlight. As a result of his remarkable performance, Milroe earned Maxwell Player of the Week honors. His dynamic playmaking abilities were a key factor in Alabama's monumental win.

Bednarik Award Player of the Week - EG Abdul Carter, Penn State
Abdul Carter was outstanding in Penn State’s 21-7 victory over Illinois on Saturday. Playing both defensive end and linebacker, Carter was a force on the field, recording seven tackles, including 4 tackles for loss, and 2 sacks. In addition, he forced a fumble to seal the game away for the Nittany Lions on the Fighting Illini’s final drive of the game. Carter will look to continue his defensive dominance as Penn State welcomes the UCLA Bruins to Happy Valley on Saturday.

PFF provides detailed metrics and performance-based assessments to selection committee staff, with several senior PFF analysts are members of our selection committee. Phil Steele’s College Football Preview is generally recognized as the most complete preseason magazine.
