Celebrating 150 years of College Football

Rutgers University and neighboring School, Princeton, played the first game of intercollegiate football on Nov. 6, 1869, on a plot of ground where the present-day Rutgers gymnasium now stands in New Brunswick, N.J. Rutgers won that first game, 6-4.

Player of the Week Awards

Each week during the 2019 season the Maxwell Football Club will recognize outstanding performances with two weekly awards. The Maxwell Award Player of the Week will be recognized for overall performance on offense, defense or special teams, and the Chuck Bednarik Award Player of the Week will be honored for outstanding defensive play. Players selected do not have to be represented on the Maxwell or Bednarik Award watch lists.

  • Tua Tagovailoa
    Tua Tagovailoa Maxwell Award Player of the Week – Tua Tagovailoa – QB - Alabama

    The Crimson Tide junior torched South Carolina in Saturday's conference win, finishing the day with 444 yards and five touchdowns. Tagovailoa became the first QB to throw for 400-plus and 5 TD in the same game in Alabama history He now has 12 touchdowns on the season in just three games with no interceptions. He has compiled 1,007 passing yards and a 76.9 completion percentage and his 95.5 total quarterback ranks second in college football through the first three weeks.

  • Ifeanyi Maijeh
    Ifeanyi Maijeh Bednarik Award Player of the Week – Ifeanyi Maijeh - DL- Temple

    The ferocious Temple defense held Maryland to 13 offensive points and made three goal-line stands – two in the last five minutes – in a 20-17 victory in front of more than 30,000 fans at Lincoln Financial Field. Anchoring that unit was defensive tackle Ifeanyi Maijeh who led the Owls 6 solo tackles, 3 tackles for loss and 2 sacks. Above the numbers, Maijeh was dominating collapsing the Terps offensive line time and time again. Temple’s defense collected 10 TFLs during the game and had three goal-line stands allowing zero points on those possessions.
