Honoring Excellence at all Levels of Football

Player of the Week Awards

Each week during the 2018 season the Maxwell Football Club will recognize outstanding performances with two weekly awards. The Maxwell Player of the Week Award will be recognized for overall performance on offense, defense or special teams, and the Chuck Bednarik Player of the Week Award will be honored for outstanding defensive play. Players selected do not have to be represented on the Maxwell or Bednarik Award watch lists.

  • Darrell Taylor

Jeremy Pruitt has the Vols headed in the right direction, beating a ranked opponent for the second time in 2018. With another win Tennessee will earn a coveted bonus game next month. Taylor spearheaded an upset of No. 11 Kentucky, which managed just one touchdown and 262 yards in Knoxville. He had seven tackles, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and four sacks, joining Reggie White and Corey Miller as the only Vols to ever get to the QB four times in a game.

  • Ryquell Armstead

The Owls went into TDECU Stadium and handed the Cougars a second straight loss, 59-49, in a game they never trailed. It was a particularly special night for Armstead, the resilient senior who’s overcome injuries to get to this point. He ran 30 times for 210 yards and six touchdowns, most by an FBS player this season, and earned Pro Football Focus’ top RB grade for Week 11.
