Celebrating 150 years of College Football

Rutgers University and neighboring School, Princeton, played the first game of intercollegiate football on Nov. 6, 1869, on a plot of ground where the present-day Rutgers gymnasium now stands in New Brunswick, N.J. Rutgers won that first game, 6-4.

Player of the Week Awards

Each week during the 2019 season the Maxwell Football Club will recognize outstanding performances with two weekly awards. The Maxwell Award Player of the Week will be recognized for overall performance on offense, defense or special teams, and the Chuck Bednarik Award Player of the Week will be honored for outstanding defensive play. Players selected do not have to be represented on the Maxwell or Bednarik Award watch lists.

  • Israel Mukuamu
    Israel Mukuamu Bednarik Award Player of the Week - Israel Mukuamu - DB - South Carolina

    South Carolina defensive back Israel Mukuamu registered three interceptions in the 20-
    17 double-overtime win over Georgia. Mukuamu notched a 53-yard pick-six late in the
    second quarter, a third down interception in the fourth quarter and then a secured a
    deflected pass to end Georgia’s first possession in overtime. He became the first
    Gamecock to intercept three passes since Patrick Hinton did it in a 23-7 win at N.C. State
    on Oct. 29, 1988. He also had 11 tackles in the game, one for a loss. Fromm, Georgia’s
    tenured junior quarterback, threw three interceptions in a game for the first time in his
    career. The pick-six in the first half was his first interception of the season.

  • Jayden Daniels
    Jayden Daniels Maxwell Award Player of the Week - Jayden Daniels - QB - Arizona State

    Jayden Daniels finished the night 26-for-36 with 363 yards and three touchdowns to go
    along with his first career rushing touchdown as Arizona State downed Pac-12 rival
    Washington State 38-34. Those statistics combined with his late-game heroics earned
    Daniels recognition as the Maxwell Award Player of the Week. Daniels won Arizona
    State’s starting job in fall camp, and he’s led the Sun Devils to a 5-1 start this season.
    He’s been excellent so far this season throwing for 1,610 yards, 8 TDs, 1 INT, 63.1 CMP%,
    9.1 YPA, with three game-winning drives already to his credit.
