Maxwell Club Announces Philadelphia Eagles' coach Andy Reid and Quarterback Michael Vick as winners of Greasy Neale and Bert Bell Awards

January 21, 2011

The Maxwell Club, the oldest football club in America, announced today that Philadelphia Eagles' head coach Andy Reid is the winner of the 23rd Annual Earle "Greasy" Neale Award as the National Football League's most outstanding coach and that Philadelphia Eagles' quarterback Michael Vick is the winner of the 52nd Annual Bert Bell Award as the most outstanding Professional Player of the Year.

Reid directed a young and what was believed to be a rebuilding Eagles team to a 10-6 regular-season finish and the NFC East Division championship. In 12 seasons as Eagles' head coach, Reid has guided the Eagles to the postseason nine times, winning six NFC East Division titles, reaching five NFC championship games and one Super Bowl.

Among coaches with 100 games under their belt, Reid's .617 winning percentage is 11th in NFL history and second among active coaches behind Bill Belichick (.627).

In 2010, Reid entered a season of uncertainty and molded a young team into the most potent offense in football. He revitalized the career of quarterback Michael Vick and has won more games as Eagles' head coach than any coach in franchise history.

This is Reid's third Greasy Neale Award. He's previously won the prestigious award after the 2000 and 2002 seasons.

Andy ReidVick completed an incredible season in which he led the Eagles to a 10-6 finish and the NFC East title. Vick completed 233 of 372 passes for 3,018 yards and 21 touchdowns. He ended 2010 with passer rating of 100.2.

Some memorable highlights to Vick's 2010 campaign include a four-touchdown, 333-yard passing performance in the Eagles' 59-28 victory over the Washington Redskins on November 15, and leading the Eagles to their greatest fourth-quarter comeback in franchise history when he threw for 242 yards and threw for three touchdowns, plus rushed for 130 yards and another score in the Eagles' dramatic 38-31 victory over the New York Giants on December 19.

Vick becomes the first Philadelphia Eagle to win the award since 1990, when the Maxwell Club honored Randall Cunningham. Vick, a first-time winner, joins a impressive list of former Bert Bell winners that includes Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Payton Manning and Adrian Peterson.

Vick and Reid will be honored Friday, March 4 at the 74th Maxwell Club National Awards Gala which will be held at the Harrah's Atlantic City Resort. Also receiving awards at this event will be; Cam Newton - Auburn University (Maxwell Award), Patrick Peterson - LSU (Chuck Bednarik Award), Frank Beamer - Virginia Tech (Joseph V. Paterno Coach of the Year Award), George Bodenheimer - ESPN/ABC Sports (Francis "Reds" Bagnell Award), Peter King - NBC/Sports Illustrated (Harrah's Broadcaster Award), Ben Ijlana - Villanova University (Tri-State Player of the Year), K.C.
